Are dried fruits healthy?
Asking yourself if dried fruit can be healthy is definitely legitimate. Dried fruits maintain most of their nutrients intact, especially if they have undergone the freeze-drying process, which is particularly good in preserving vitamins almost untouched. Generally, dried fruit can be part of a healthy and balanced diet, but it should not substitute fresh fruit.
Losing weight whìith dried fruits?
If you are trying to lose weight, the most important thing you have to consider is your calorie intake. Dried fruit can be part of your diet even if you want to lose weight, but you should always pay attention not to consume too much of it, as dried fruit is very energy-dense and high-sugar. If you are avoiding refined sugar in order to aid weight loss, dried fruits are definitely a great alternative to industrial sweets, and can help you balance and integrate your diet.
The vitamin content of dried fruits
It is no secret that fresh fruit is extremely rich in vitamins. Does dried fruit contain as many vitamins as its fresh counterpart? The good news is that dried fruits do have a lot of vitamins too, albeit not as many as fresh fruit. Our dried physalis, for example, are real vitamin powerhouses, as they contain vitamin C, E, B2 and B6.
Natural dried fruits
We at KoRo always try to avoid as much as possible to add anything to our products. Therefore, almost all our dried fruits are free from added sugar and sulphur.
Dried fruits: sulphur or not?
What is the matter with sulphur? Should dry fruits contain it or not? Dried fruits are treated with sulphur to make them last longer, and often to maintain their bright colours. You can tell that our dried apricots are not treated with sulphur from their darker colour. Sulphur is not unhealthy or harmful, but we believe that our dried fruit is perfect just the way it is, without any additives. Hence is our dried fruit generally free from sulphur, and even so keeps very long!
Our dried fruit is delicious even with no added sugar
Through the gentle drying process our fruits are deprived of their water content; this is the reason why the amount of sugar increases r – along with the taste. Therefore we think that our fruit is perfect and delicious even without any added sugar. In the few cases where we thought that some fruit did need a little help, we make it extra clear, like for our cranberries sweetened with pineapple concentrate.
The production of dried fruits
As you might have already understood, we have selected for you a wide variety of dried fruits. Now we want to explain their production process.
To dry your fruits at home you need a lot of time and energy. This is why we take this demanding task from your shoulders and do it for you. We place our fruits in special loft drying machines, where they lose their water content and obtain their characteristic, wonderful texture.
Another drying process is the particularly delicate process called freeze-drying. Before undergoing the drying procedure, the fruit is shock-frozen, and then deprived of its water with the aid of a vacuuming machine. Thus are produced our amazing banana stripes, for example. This process has many advantages: form, colour and nutritional values remain almost intact, and the fruits are particularly durable due to their extremely low water content. Vitamins are also almost perfectly preserved.
Dried fruit and their countless uses
We want to give you some inspiration to use our dried fruit, but you should feel free to unleash your creativity, because the possibilities are endless.
Soak dry fruits – why?
Dried fruit can be soaked before being consumed or used – even though, of course, it does not have to. Soaking up dried fruits makes them naturally softer and easier to chew. You can, for example, soak our dried mango stripes in water for 30 minutes. Through soaking, dried fruits can also go back to their original shape – try it with our freeze-dried peach slices, if you don’t believe us!
Dried fruits as topping
We find dried fruits to be the prettiest topping for your porridge or breakfast bowls. You can cut them into smaller pieces and sprinkle them over your dishes.
