Everything at a glance Organic Kalamata olives 400 g

Oh, Greece... as soon as one hears or reads this magical name, the mind starts dreaming of solitary, beautiful bays of white sand washed by gentle waves and shaded by Mediterranea vegetation; and, of course, of Greece's delicious food like feta, flatbread, and olives! No country is more famous for her olives than Greece, and rightly so, as Greek olives taste simply heavenly. Before you jump on the next plain directed to this ancient land, read further: KoRo has selected the very best of Greek olives, which are now waiting for you to get your hands on them! Our new Kalamata olives will take you on a culinary trip to the sun-kissed olive fields of a half-deserted Greek island – cicadas included!

Aromatic olives directly from Greece

Kalamata olives, also know as Kalomon olives, are a traditional variety that comes from the region of the same name, which is to be found in the Peloponnes. Due to their mild, buttery taste, these olives are often used to make olive oil. Unlike green olives, these dark, almond-shaped cousins of theirs have a firm skin and a soft, fleshy texture.

Pickled dark Kalamata olives

Hand-picked, our dark olives are placed in jars filled with salted water, and fermented. For this purpose, the dark fruits are traditionally placed in a brine made of water, vinegar, and sea salt: this is how the Greek olives get their unique buttery and full-bodied taste. The aroma unfolds over time: first the olives taste a little bitter due to the salt and vinegar solution, then they develop their fruity, aromatic sweetness – a unique taste experience that you can now enjoy at home!

Black olives are a true all-rounder

Our Greek olives bring a sunny taste of Greece to your kitchen: ideal for the preparation of a hearty olive paste, a strong pasta sauce, or for refining your Greek salad, they are also the perfect addition to your homemade olive bread and focaccia! With their unmistakable taste, they will give  your every dish a very special touch. But, in our humble opinion, our olives shine the brightest as the star of your happy hour or cocktail party!

A pure Greek experience

As you have probably noticed already, most olives are sold without their pit in order to make it easier for the customers to process and eat them. However, it is often forgotten that olives without their pit lose their delicious aroma much faster. Therefore, our Kalamata olives arrive to your door unpitted and ready to amaze your guests with their intense taste. It is well known that conviviality is very important in Greece: invite your friends to a Greek evening and spoil them with our aromatic organic Kalamata olives. What are you waiting for!

In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles.
  • Price Change Icon

    Why is the price fluctuating?

Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers.

Cultivation on the Peloponnese peninsula

Kalamata olives belong to the Greek Kalomon variety. Kalamata is located on the Greek peninsula of the Peloponnese, in the Messinia region, where, already in 13 BC, the famous Kalamata olives were grown in numerous fields. Even today, the olive fields decorate the area around the region's capital, whose hilly landscape on the seashore is climatically ideal for growing these juicy black table olives. The fruits of this variety are only called Kalamata olives if they actually come from the region, as it is a protected designation of origin.

The olive tree

Olive trees have shaped the Greek landscape for thousands of years. A member of the genus Oleaceae, this naturally evergreen tree loves the warmth and can withstand extended periods of drought. Depending on the variety, olive trees can reach heights of 10 to 20 metres and can live up to 600 years!

The most famous olives

In the Mediterranean area alone there are over 1000 different varieties of olive trees, which differ depending on the climate and soil conditions. The colour of the olives does not depend on the type of tree: olives are green or black only according to their degree of ripeness, as the flavourful black olives are already ripe when picked, and the milder green olives are harvested not fully ripe. As a rule, however, there are different varieties of olive trees, as some are more suitable for the production of black olives and others for those of green olives.

First the flowers

The olive tree blooms between the end of April and the beginning of July. Its inflorescences can hold up to 40 flowers each, from which the solitary stone fruits, our olives, will develop during the summer months. How fast the ripening process goes depends on the hours of sunshine and the temperature, but also on the tree variety.

Selected and sorted by hand

As soon as the plant sheds the first seeds, these are collected and carefully selected. By removing the outer skin, the beautiful white-greenish colour of the hemp seeds comes to light.

In Greece, harvesting takes place in winter. From October to March our ripe olives are still harvested by hand in the south of the Greek Peloponnese peninsula - picked individually or combed from the trees with the help of long sticks. Under the olive trees are placed nets and tarpaulins that catch and collect the falling olives. This harvesting method is traditional of the Messinian region and goes back to ancient Greece.

Kalamata olives, like all other types of olives, cannot be eaten raw due to the bitter substances they contain. After the harvest, the olives are therefore first de-bittered in a water bath, then preserved in a brine

the cores should not be removed or damaged under any circumstances, as they preserve the fruit's taste. Finally, the Kalomon olives are soaked in a fresh brine made from sea salt, water and vinegar for a period of up to ten months in order to completely lose their bitterness. The composition of the brine determines the final aroma of the table olives.

Good things are worth waiting for. Once the olives have lost their bitterness and have developed their full aroma, they are poured in our brine-filled jars, to which we add absolutely no sugar, artificial colours and preservatives. Last but not least, the finished olives must undergo a strict quality control which ensures that you only get the best and finest Kalamata olives.

Taste and price have convinced me absolutely.

The olives are large, fleshy and taste wonderfully aromatic.
I have ordered directly 6 glasses so I have saved per glass in contrast to the single glass.
From the price-performance ratio I am thrilled

P.S I have made another video, unfortunately it does not work with the transfer. Is there another way to send it to you?
