Everything at a glance Organic unpeeled hemp seeds 1 kg

Do you already know everything about the incredible versatility of hemp, and are also familiar with some of our most popular hemp products like hemp protein? Then you are ready for unpeeled hemp seeds. No worries, the skin of these tiny seeds is perfectly edible, and it actually adds to their taste. Their unique nutty flavour will make hemp seeds become one of your favourite porridge, muesli, and salad ingredients. Moreover, they are very high fibre and protein! And luckily we have you covered with a practical and convenient one-kilo bag. Awesome, right?

Superfood with a history

Hemp belongs to the family of the Cannabis Sativa plant species, and is one of the first plants to be grown for human use and consumption. Originally, hemp comes from Central Asia, but is nowadays cultivated pretty much in every region of the planet. In the past years, hemp has been living a veritable Renaissance; it has never been as beloved as it is today, as more and more people are falling in love with its numerous nutritional benefits, like the phosphorus it contains, and peculiar taste. Hemp is definitely of the first superfoods! Unpeeled, the hemp seeds remain crispy and have an intense, nutty taste – ideal for enhancing your dishes.

Natural nutrient bombs

Hemp seeds are a good source of plant-based protein and are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Unpeeled hemp has good 20 g of protein per 100 g, and provide you with all the essential amino acids that your body needs – as these amino acids are not produced by our organism, they need to be obtained from food. So complete a protein source is difficult to find among the plant-based ones; hemp is, therefore, particularly important for vegans. Compared to peeled hemp seeds, these tiny nutrient powerhouses have an extra portion of fibre. Add them to your porridge, baked goods, and even savoury creations, for a nutty touch which will not disappoint!

What makes our hemp seeds so special

As a superfood, hemp seeds are very versatile – just like their companions chia and flaxseed. Our unpeeled organic hemp seeds come from allotment gardeners in Austria and are free of any additives. After the harvest, they end up in our convenient value packs and go straight to your pantry. 100% natural, versatile, and super tasty too!

Varieties and origins

Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. 25 kinds of hemp are grown worldwide. Besides being used in the textile industry (hemp fibres are very resistant), hemp is cultivated for its seeds, which are incredibly rich in oil and nutrients. Hemp originates from China, where, in 2800 BC was already being used for making ropes. Today, commercial hemp's global acreage is between 60,000 and 100,000 hectares on average, with yearly fluctuations. In 2018, Cina, Canada, and the EU counted 150.000 hectares in total among them. More exact numbers are unknown, The numbers on the map date from 2017 and indicate the cultivation in hectares.

What is the KoRo price chart?

In this chart, you can see the price per base unit (mainly 100g). In addition, you will learn the reason for a price reduction or increase by clicking on the information circles.
  • Price Change Icon

    Why is the price fluctuating?

Most annual product crops have an impact on the relationship between supply and demand in the market. In the event of a bad harvest, we must also pay a higher price for raw materials. Due to the strong impact of external factors such as wind, weather, climate and natural events on the harvest, we are refusing long-term cross-harvest contracts with our producers.
  • Communication Icon

Why are we communicating price changes at KoRo?

Open communication is very important to us and therefore part of our vision. For this reason, we would like to keep you informed of the evolution of our prices. Thus, the KoRo price chart provides a transparent overview of the evolution of the products prices over time.

At home in China

As one of the oldest cultivated plants ever, hemp was already cultivated in China 5000-6000 years ago. Unfortunately, the Chinese were not aware of the culinary potential of hemp seeds! Nowadays, industrial hemp is grown sporadically all over the world, but European production is still far behind the growing demand.
